Thank you to all alumni who attended the annual Chongqing alumni dinner on Saturday 19th March 2016. The dinner was hosted by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Ieuan Owen, and International Partnerships Manager, Professor Ian Barnes.
Davide Pinto-Castro reflects on his job-search experience and the importance of his studies (and that all-important seminar reading) in preparing him for the world of work.
I graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2013, after reading for a degree in International Relations and Politics. Afterwards I, like many others, went back to spend some time with my parents at their house, before embarking on the mammoth task of actually finding a job and working full-time in a field that matched my academic experience and desire. As expected, I couldn’t immediately find my dream job, so decided to set up online publication The Critique instead (see this article for more information on The Critique – Ed.) whilst also searching for full-time graduate employment.
When Lincoln alumna Amber Sumpter, MA Journalism, 2014, came to the University from Tucson, Arizona, she gained the knowledge, skills and experience she needed to pursue her dream of breaking into broadcast news.
Since graduating, Amber’s perseverance, talent and resilience in one of the most competitive industries around has secured her a position as a news assistant with Florida-based television news channel Ivanhoe Broadcast News — the start of a career that she hopes will see her rise through the ranks into a broadcast production role.
